The International Research Center for Neurointelligence (IRCN) was established with the ultimate goal of fundamentally understanding the origins of human intelligence. Together, we will probe underlying principles of neural circuit development and explore the etiology of brain disorders. Based on this knowledge, we strive to create innovative artificial intelligence (AI) and to ultimately approach the key question, “How does human intelligence arise?” by blending developmental neuroscience with novel AI perspectives.
Our research enterprise will fuse a wide range of academic disciplines, including life sciences, medicine, humanities, social, mathematical, and information sciences, to create a new field of “neurointelligence”. IRCN is also functioning as a research hub in collaboration with overseas institutions, such as Boston Children’s Hospital by offering cutting-edge technology and an international environment to researchers from around the world. Please come and share our quest, key collaborations, state-of-the-art core facilities, and unique culture!

The Brain ―― Exploring the Universe Within ――
With interdisciplinary and cross-institutional research, IRCN is establishing the new field of “neurointelligence” and will dig into questions to unravel the origins of human intelligence.

The International Research Center for Neurointelligence (IRCN) was established in 2017 with a 10-year mission: to understand the principles of the developing brain with the ultimate goals of solving mental illness and brain disorders, and developing next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) by combining life sciences and information sciences.
IRCN has already produced several breakthrough fusion insights, while stimulating globalization, diversity and inclusion at UTokyo. Launched as a prestigious government-funded World Premier International (WPI) center, we now aspire to become a permanent Institute in service to society more broadly. Can the human brain understand itself well enough to mend or mimic? Let’s find out together by supporting our unique new field of Neurointelligence!
Your donation will be used:
▶To promote interdisciplinary research on Neurointelligence
▶To maintain the international research environment
▶To nurture young researchers and support international exchange
▶To share IRCN research findings with society
How to Donate
Please fill out the Donation Request Form, and mail it to donate@ircn.jp. We will contact you and issue a bank transfer request form. After we confirm your payment, we will send you a donation receipt along with letter of appreciation.
For those who live in Japan, please note that donations to the University of Tokyo are eligible for tax benefits.

Request for supportive comments:
Supportive comments submitted along with donations will be projected on a digital nameplate within the institute, located in the Faculty of Medicine Building 1. Your comments will be shown as an encouragement to researchers.
Appreciation gifts/Commemoratve souvenirs:
Donors who contribute 300,000 yen or above will have their name displayed on the digital nameplate.
