On 21-22 October 2023 (Sat-Sun), the third retreat for the IRCN was held at Shonan Village Center in Kanagawa Prefecture, overlooking Sagami Bay. A total of about 75 participants of different generations and nationalities participated in the retreat, including IRCN PIs, Researchers, Affiliated Faculty, Associate Research Fellows, Visiting Researchers, graduate students and intern students from overseas. In addition to keynote speeches by Prof Shinsuke Shimojo (Caltech) and Dr Yilun Du (MIT PhD), there were breakout sessions introducing the latest research in five categories of team science (Neuromoduration, Intrinsic Activity, Social Learning, Prediction, and Critical Period), and 40 poster presentations, which led to lively discussions. To strengthen collaborative relationships across laboratories and research fields, there was also a mug pattern design competition with nine groups competing against each other. The event provided an opportunity for intensive cross-disciplinary research exchange, away from daily life.
