A note from the EIR Director
The Entrepreneur-in-Residence Core was created to bridge research and real-world ventures.
We have world-class neuroscience and AI happening here every day. The question is how to translate it into the lives of millions.
In April 2026, the International Research Center for Neurointelligence (WPI-IRCN) at the University of Tokyo launched the Entrepreneurship-in-Residence (EIR) Core as part of its transition into the next phase of the WPI program, “IRCN2.”
The EIR Core is an initiative aimed at translating research outcomes in neurointelligence — an interdisciplinary field integrating neuroscience and AI — into real-world applications and new industries. In particular, it seeks to create an environment in which researchers can explore startup pathways based on their research achievements.
This initiative connects researchers with experienced entrepreneurs, enabling them to expand the potential of their research while receiving practical guidance on commercialization and translational opportunities.
Through the EIR Core, IRCN aims to integrate research, entrepreneurship, and sustained community engagement, while fostering the development of a new neurotech innovation ecosystem.
