International Research Center for Neurointelligence is chosen for the World Premier International Research Center Initiative of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

The IRCN aims to create a new field of “Neurointelligence” by fusing life sciences with medical, social, mathematical and information sciences. Elucidating the key principles of neural circuit development and how it goes awry in psychiatric disorders promises new insights for innovative, neuro-inspired artificial intelligence. These advances, in turn, will offer computational approaches to better understand the human condition.

The University of Tokyo now hosts two WPI, the other being the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the University (Kavli IPMU), which was selected in 2007.
